CV-CIRRD is a network of institutions with a goal to achieve streamlined coordination of Research and Development activities through sharing of resources and expertise. Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) is the CV-CIRRD based agency located at NORSU, Main Campus 1, Dumaguete City Negros Oriental, Philippines.
MANGO Mango is one of the most popular tropical fruits and considered as one of the finest fruit in the world. Mango, the Philippine national fruit is the third most important fruit crop of the country based on export volume and value next to banana and pineapple. COCONUT The Coconut Tree (Cocos Nucifera L.) is called "The Tree of Life" because of the endless list of products and by-products derived from its various parts. Food, shelter, fuel - name it, the coconut has it. The coconut industry is considered a major dollar earner that provides livelihood to one-third of the country's population. ABACCA Abaca known worldwide as Manila hemp is the natural fiber for the next millennium. It is indigenous to the Philippines whose favorable climatic condition and volcanic soils are suited to its cultivation. The crop is cultivated in almost all parts of the country. POULTRY The broiler-producing industry has been one of the most flourishing in the livestock and poultry sector for the past decades. This was strongly indicated during the last five years, 1995-1999, as the industry's output grew by 5.75 percent, in spite of the financial crisis.

Specifically, the STA for the next five years of the identified commodities have been decided as follows: 1. Crops S&T Development Program: | R&D Area | Coconut | Vegetables (Carrots, cauliflower, cabbage, chayote, bell pepper, lettuce and indigenous species) | Rice | Abaca | | Climate Change | P | P | P | P | | Economics | P | P | P | P | | Gender & Development | P | P | P | P | | Governance | P | P | P | P | | Impact Assessment & M&E | P | P | P | P | | Marketing/SME Development | P | P | P | P | | Socio-cultural | P | P | P | P | | Technical/Production R&Ds | P | P | P | P | Under crops, the S&T programs include climate change, economics, gender and development, governance and others. All the four commodities are included. For example, a study may address the effects of climate change on rice production in various rice-producing provinces in the region. |

| R&D Area | Dairy | Native Chicken | Goat | | Baselining | P | P | P | | Genetic Improvement | P | P | P | | Enterprise Development | P | P | P | | Institutional Support | P | P | P | | Impact Assessment & M&E | P | P | P | | Animal Health | P | P | P | | Environmental Impacts | P | P | P | Under the Dairy and Livestock Program, researchable areas would include base lining, genetic improvement, enterprise development, environmental impacts and others. All the three commodities under this will be addressed. For instance, a standing proposal on genetic improvement of the Bisaya strain native chicken when implemented will improve the genetic characteristics of the Bisaya strain native chicken found in Bohol as well as in many other parts of the region. Another study may be done on the impact of a commercial production of goats on the environment. Such study will produce important input to any proposed commercial goat production in the region. |

| Ecotourism | Watershed | Mangroves | | Standard Development in Selected Areas for Ecotourism | Enhancing Sustainable Watershed Management | Community Involvement in Mangrove Protection and Development | | | | Mangrove Resource Assessment | | Natural Resources Management and Sustainable Development | | Impacts of Ecotourism | For one reason, the government is intensifying its efforts to promote ecotourism industry development in the country and that Region 7 has been identified as one of those with high potential for ecotourism. CVCIRRD will invest in a number of ecotourism R&D studies. Two of these will be in the area of standard development and natural resources management and sustainable development. In addition to these, other critical issues and problems affecting the condition of the region’s watersheds and mangroves will be given attention, also. Focus though will be on sustainable management, Community Involvement in Mangrove Protection and Development, Mangrove Resource Assessment and impacts of ecotourism. The above table shows the Consortium’s interest in the conduct of R&D in many and varied areas of interest from climate change, economics, gender and development, from genetic improvement to impact assessment. The effort is seen to be collectively put forward by the members working together or singly by a member agency which has the required R&D capability. |
